For today’s class, we mostly discussed what each of us did for the assignment. It was interesting to see what everyone came up with, especially how everyone thought of fear and how they interpreted it. The topic of fear is just an interesting subject because there can be many different interpretations of the word. It could mean something physically scaring, a mental fear, a sound, a visual picture, etc. There are just so many possibilities to the term fear that it was interesting to see and hear what everyone came up with today.
For class, we have to answer two simple question about fear. The questions are “what is fear?” and “why do we have fear?”. These questions are part of an upcoming assignment based on fear, but for now, I will just answer the questions in this blog post. Part of this assignment was to read Harold and the Purple Crayon and then draw our responses to the questions using a purple crayon. So, here are my answers and drawings to the questions:
What is fear?
Fear is something of which you are afraid.
This image depicts a person being afraid.
Why do we have fear?
We have fear because it is what makes us human. Without it, we would be just like robots, oblivious beings.
This image depicts an equation, Human – Fear = Robot.
One thing I found interesting about today’s class was the talking about how each person is unique and has their own purpose for being. Granted it is very deep to think about but it is something that is worth thinking about from time to time. Also, a discussion of how people see each other with a filter that they put up about a person or that the person puts up themselves. It is an interesting thought and something I hadn’t thought of before.
For this assignment, we had to think of who we are and why we are here by doing something (or creating something) that examines these questions. My responses to them are below:
Who are you?
This used to be a hard question to answer, but after being in college and starting my own comic strip a couple of years ago, I know now who I am. I’m Corey, a cartoonist and an intelligent, funny, caring person.
Why are you here?
I never knew what my reason for being here was, but because of the comic strip, I have come to realize that I am an entertainer, I am here to entertain people using jokes and witty puns (sometimes groaners as well) to make people laugh and be entertained at the comic strip.
For today’s class, we watched a documentary. It was interesting about the garbage pickers and the artist that was doing the documentary and how he created artwork out of the garbage/recycled materials. Being an artist myself, I was intrigued at how he took the pictures of the different people and used the items from the landfill to re-create the image. I probably wouldn’t do it myself, but it was an interesting concept.
One thing that stood out to me in today’s class was the discussion of ourself in our projects. It was interesting to see the different projects and hear the stories of why everyone created what they did and how they went about doing it. The one project that was the most touching to me was a girl that dealt with alcohol, and at the same time, honored her mom with it by the items she put into the bottle. It was touching, and that was what stood out to me today.
